OUR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH UMÉ

1. Tell us about your new song? And what’s the story behind it?
My new track, “3 AM” featuring Toushai and produced by Rard Beatz, is about the element of relationships in general and the struggle within them that cause us to lose touch with the idea of self-care. This perspective includes my own past experience as well as how my issues affected me mentally/emotionally. It’s an element of the whole idea of growing up which is why it will be a part of my upcoming project, “Growing Pains,” that dives into real and relatable experiences like these.
2. What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?
I make what I like to call  “empathetic, mood music” that’s relatable with a sound that’s more tapped in with emotion/more real ideas that people may be experiencing. Through my music, I want to empower those who feel powerless, serve as a positive voice for others, and encourage everyone to tap into their real feelings and emotions. I think that’s the key to achieving your goals and what you set your mind to
3. Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
One moment that was really memorable was my performance opening at Terminal 5 for a Halloween event. A newer one I would say would be directing parts of this latest music video that just dropped since it’s something I’ve been trying to work on and because it’s the start of other great projects that I plan to be involved in
4. How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends, or work?
I just always try to improve my time management. I’m someone who always overthinks and sets high standards for myself daily because I expect a lot out of me so it can be hard at times trying to get everything done, especially through the colder months, but I make sure to take things a step at a time and have been working on refocusing myself through meditation. It’s allowed me to stay grounded easier and work with a healthier mindset
5. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
I would say it’s all about your consistency and finding where you can fit or add value best in the industry. Im learning every day trying to figure out where and how I can make the most impact that works for me and I think it’s about understanding your role as well as yourself at its core. Then on top, the hustle factor definitely plays into it.
6. If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
View every problem as an experience and every experience and opportunity to grow from. You have the power to become the best version of yourself, but make sure within that process you remain authentic and stay true to yourself. Finally, I would say to always feel how you feel just keep it real.
7. What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
Besides my own brand and music I’ve been working to expand to write in new genres of music and towards writing placements for artist/sync opportunities. I’ve been connecting with new talent and expanding my network to do so, but besides that, I’ve been also trying to get into some directing work as well to try and bring my music to life through visuals
