OUR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH FALLEN OCEANS

1.Tell us about your new song? And what’s the story behind it?

My new song is a collaboration with Wander All Winter. and Daniel Javan titled ‘best i could be.’ This is one of the many collaborative tracks I have made with Wander and it is my first time working with Daniel. For three people who have never met in person, we share a lot of experience regarding relationships we’ve had and life lessons we have learned along the way.

‘best i could be.’ is a song that embodies a key duality in relationships: being the support for your significant other and needing support from your significant other. Daniel sings in the refrains “You make me better, the best I could be.” This line represents when you acknowledge how powerful and life-changing the support from your S.O. is. I sing in my verse “You’ll be relieved when I put my lips to your lips and tell you it’s okay.” This represents playing a supporting role in the relationship because you recognize how important that is. In my opinion, balance is everything in a relationship and this song really captures that.

2.What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

I think what makes my music unique is its authenticity and raw emotion. Even metaphorically, almost all my lyrics are tied to real experiences. I would describe my music as reflective, honest, and empathetic. I started making music to help myself cope with difficult situations in my life. Now I make it to help others process the feelings they don’t know how to talk about with people around them.

3.Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

Honestly, getting my song ‘I Saw an Angel’ featured on the Promoting Sounds YouTube channel was a really proud moment. I had never had a song with more than a few hundred plays until the channel uploaded ‘I Saw An Angel.’ It was a proud moment because it showed me that all the work I had put into music, both in producing and singing, since 2013 had paid off. I was proud of the fact that I stuck with music regardless of the hate I got from kids in high school for it.

4.How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

At this point in the summer, it is not easy. I work outside doing grounds work/maintenance 40 hours a week, which can be physically taxing at times. I also spend time having fun with my family, friends, and girlfriend. I have two days off during the week and I usually spend one day working on music. Besides that day, I make music whenever I have a free hour or two at home after work. Music never feels like a chore, so when I make it I am always glad to be making it.

5.What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Network, network, network! Find your main genre community, find other vocalists and producers in that community, make a ton of music, and send your best to the big YouTube channels and Spotify playlists in that community. If new musicians discover you from the YouTube channel, check them out and see if you can work with them on music too! Have patience and don’t compare your results to big name artists in your genre. Hard work pays off, I promise.

6.If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

If there is one thing I have learned in life, it is that there is always at least one person who has gone through exactly what you are going through. Find some kind of emotional outlet to clear your head and refocus your energy; for me that outlet is making music. Do whatever you need to do to get yourself back to 100%. Live life day by day and hold onto the joy of the best moments.

7.What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I am excited to announce an EP I am dropping this summer along with my lofi pop producer/friend swablu. We have been working on this since February and we have been making sure every theme and detail of each track is exactly how we want it to be. We are really excited to share it and hope it reaches the hearts of our fans and new listeners.
