Our interview with DMAD for his new release EP “Dreams Make A Difference”

1. Tell us about your new EP? And what’s the story behind it?

Dmad: My new EP “Dreams Make A Difference” was released on all streaming platforms on January 26. It consists of 5 vibey, up-beat rap songs that follow themes such as living out one’s dreams, adjusting to a new lifestyle, and the substance abuse that comes with it. I began creating the EP after my song “World is Spinning” blew up when I began hearing from record labels. I wrote about the experiences I’ve had while my dreams are coming to fruition.

2. What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

Dmad: I take pride in my versatility as an artist, particularly within the hip-hop genre. I use a lot of different genres to inspire my sound within hip-hop… It varies from the classic boom-bap style of rap all the way to implementing sounds from EDM music- and just about everything in between that. I don’t feel like a lot of artists can do this successfully and so I think that makes me unique in a way.

3. Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

Dmad: The moment I’m most proud of from my music career would be the first time I hit a million streams… That first million was SPECIAL. Hitting 25 million streams was also an unreal milestone, as was signing my first deal. Overall though, being able to drop out of school, quit my job, and be financially stable on my own as an artist is my biggest accomplishment.

4. How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends, or work?

Dmad: My obligations and my music work hand in hand. My “obligations” inspire me… spending time with friends, family, etc.- feeling the energy of those around me inspires me to make better music, especially when I’m around people who support me. It hasn’t been much of a challenge lately balancing music and other activities because making music is my job and I work on my own schedule; it gives me a lot of freedom to do other things (for the time being). It also helps that I’m surrounded by people who understand how important music is to me, so they usually understand when I have to miss out on things for my career.

5. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Dmad: The best advice I can give to aspiring musicians is to be original as much as possible. A lot of upcoming artists nowadays try to recreate sounds that may be trending at the time, just like everyone else does. If somebody wants to listen to a Carti or Juice type song, they’ll listen to Carti or Juice. It is great to be inspired by other artists, but upcoming artists should use that inspiration within the sound that you want to develop, not copy it.

6. If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Dmad: Thank you for the support, and congrats on being early… The world is ours for the taking.

7. What’s next for you? Any upcoming songs/projects

Dmad: For the near future, I’m spending time promoting the new EP and travelling for shows- the next month or two is packed! I’ll also be continuing to make new music and brainstorm new projects, as always- definitely have a LOT in store for the future.
